Talking Art: Louvre Abu Dhabi - Children´s Workshops
A series of hands on art workshops for 11-16 year olds complemented the Louvre Abu Dhabi experience. The workshops explored art history and involved specialist art techniques. The kids workshop was a success with approxiamtely 200 attendees. The following are titles and descriptions of the three workshops:
Decoration and symbols in religious art and artefacts Children had the chance to design and create their own vase or plate using Islamic decorations or design a lantern using lighting effects, transparency, gold ornamentation and calligraphy found in art works.
Falcons, finery and jewels as symbols in art The children created stunning finery and jewellery drawing on the falcon in Arabian, Egyptian, Roman and Mediterranean art as well as imperial dress and necklaces in portraits.
From the everyday to the extraordinary… It was a great oppurtunity for children to learn how to change a simple object into and art piece by transforming an everyday object such as a plate or clothing through decoration into something remarkable using ceramics, materials, wood….
Talking Art: Louvre Abu Dhabi - Briefing for Teachers
Teachers and educators attended a bespoke briefing on 27 May at 3pm , in Gallery One. The briefing highlight key themes to be explored within Louvre Abu Dhabi. Education experts from the Louvre Museum shared their expertise and specialist materials.
This dedicated teacher’s training session focused not only on the works featured in Talking Art: Louvre Abu Dhabi event itself but also on the key concepts and approaches teachers can use to increase pupil’s knowledge, understanding and awareness of the issues raised in these works. The relationship between teaching art in the classroom and visits to this event and museums in general was also touched upon. One of the Louvre Abu Dhabi’s aims is to provide young audiences with the keys for understanding works of art and artistic creation through history and through the world and so the session included a valuable preview of the educational dimension of the Louvre Abu Dhabi itself. The briefing was well attended, with approximately 20 teachers and educators from various schools and sectors.
