Educator’s Evening: Introduction to Splendours of Mesopotamia
5-6:30pm/ Manarat Al Saadiyat
Educators at all levels, P-12 to Universities, are invited to Manarat al Saadiyat, on Saadiyat Island, to preview the Splendours of Mesopotamia exhibition and learn about ways to share the exhibition with your students. Splendours of Mesopotamia features an introduction to 3,000 years of Mesopotamian civilisation based on a stunning array of objects drawn from the world-famous Middle East collection of the British Museum, the first in a series of exhibitions organized in Abu Dhabi prior to the opening of the Zayed National Museum. The evening will begin with a preview tour through Splendours of Mesopotamia, led by the Education team and will conclude with a teacher resource guide take-away. The resource guide includes: pre- and post-tour information, art-making projects, exhibition information, and writing activities to introduce some of the exhibition’s key themes and concepts.

Adult Workshop: Mesopotamian Friezes
11-1pm/ Manarat Al Saadiyat
Using clay as a regressive drawing medium, draw your own Mesopotamian narrative inspired by the reliefs of the Assyrian Palaces. Cast your clay drawing in plaster-of-Paris to create your own relief.
Led by specialist art practitioners, the workshop includes a tour of the Splendours of Mesopotamia exhibition. Workshops at Manarat al Saadiyat on Saadiyat Island are open and welcome to adults (18 years and older) of all abilities.
This programme is free, however, prior booking and registration is required.

In the ancient Mesopotamian manner, draw and write into wet clay using a cuneiform tool. Cuneiform is one of the earliest known forms of written expression. Use painterly techniques to age your stoneware to look like an authentic artefact from 3,000 BCE. Led by specialist art practitioners, the workshop includes a tour of the Splendours of Mesopotamia exhibition. Workshops at Manarat al Saadiyat on Saadiyat Island are open and welcome to adults (18 years and older) of all abilities.
