Drawing the Line: Arabic Calligraphy

Create wonderful original works of art incorporating Arabic Calligraphy. Using selected works of art from Opening the Doors as a stimulus. The engaging, enlightening and enjoyable children’s art workshops are delivered by specialist art practitioners and tutors.

Open to children aged between 6 and 12 years old.


Arabic Calligraphy in Modern and Contemporary Art
Adults workshop

Arabic Calligraphy has played a large role in classical Middle Eastern art. Experiment with a range of techniques, exploring the graphic qualities of painting, printing, drawing and collage as you produce an original and unique work of art incorporating Arabic Calligraphy. Today Arabic Calligraphy is still important in contemporary art as a source of identity, inspiration and expression.

Open to adults (18 years and older) of all abilities.

Clay Statues
Children’s workshop
22 November 2010, 4-6pm

Learn how to mould and build using clay to produce wonderful, personal and unique sculptures in response to the works in Opening the Doors. Gain inspiration from looking at the sculptures in the exhibition to create your own clay statue.

Open to children aged between 6 and 12 years old.

Abstract and Figurative Clay Sculpture
Adults’ workshop
23 November 2010, 16:00-18:00

Create your own sculpture inspired by great masterworks by Mohammed Mokhtar, Parviz Tanavoli and Adam Henein in “Opening the Doors” exhibition. Through preliminary sketches of the pieces in the exhibition participants will gauge a better understanding of form and proportion. Then explore the sculptural qualities of clay and construct a personal and unique sculpture informed by your observations.

Open to adults (18 years and older) of all abilities.


Arabian Cityscape
Children’s workshop
9 December 2010, 16:00-18:00

Please note the workshop on December 7th is now cancelled.

Create an imaginary urban landscape inspired by the works in “Opening the Doors”. Have fun experimenting with paint and pattern and making textured surfaces to produce a wonderful Arabian cityscape of your own design. Take home a unique and interesting finished piece of art. The engaging, enlightening and enjoyable Children’s art workshops are delivered by specialist art practitioners and tutors.

Open to children aged between 6 and 12 years old.
