Overview
Masterpieces from the world-renowned collection of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York were showcased at the Emirates Palace. The exhibition surveyed the radical experiments undertaken by Paul Cezanne, Willem de Kooning, Jackson Pollock, Georges Seurat, and other leading artists of the late 19th century and the first half of the 20th century who broke with the traditional view that art should faithfully reproduce the visible world.
Paintings by more than forty artists whose emphasis on self-expression and the formal aspects of painting such as line and color transformed visual art in the West. The Guggenheim: The Making of a Museum was on view at Gallery One in the Emirates Palace Abu Dhabi from November 17, 2009 through February 4, 2010. An exciting series of tours, lectures, and programs were offered in conjunction with the exhibition.
