overview

In summer 2008 Abu Dhabi hosted the first ever major Picasso exhibition in the Middle East. In the period of May 27 to September 4, the retrospective Picasso Abu Dhabi, Masterpieces from the Museé National Picasso, Paris were shown in Gallery One of the Emirates Palace. The exhibition featured an exceptional selection of works by Pablo Picasso, spanning all periods and styles in the career of the 20th century’s signature artist.

The exhibition was drawn exclusively from the singularly important holding of the Museé National Picasso, Paris, which came directly from the artist’s studios. A total of 183 works were shown – including paintings, sculptures and works on paper. The exhibition layout also included a multi media room which utilizes film, photographic and audio collateral from the museum’s incomparable Picasso Archives.
