About

An exhibition organised by Abu Dhabi Art in collaboration the gallery kamel mennour and the Giacometti Foundation. Showing in the Emirates Palace Dome 4-7 November 2010. Entry is complimentary. In 2009, Abu Dhabi Art featured the exhibition of The Funerals of Monna Lisa by Yan Pei Ming. Presented by Abu Dhabi Art in collaboration with the Louvre, the exhibition was testament to the fact that Abu Dhabi Art is a true crossroads of culture. It was also a reminder of the power of artworks to overcome differences and unite people from different nations.

The interest of this present juxtaposition, of this silent dialogue between Daniel Buren´s galaxy of stripes and Giacometti’s figures, lies in the short window of time (1964-1966) from which all the works have been taken. Buren’s paintings establish a poignant flow of tranquillity, devoid of anguish that vibrates in them. Through his work we find a way of extending ourselves in space, while Giacometti’s sculptures are a testimony to the art of beholding.
