The Collectors Forum: Collecting Photography is presented as part of the public programme for Emirati Expressions, an exhibition currently on view at Manarat Al Saadiyat.  The Collectors Forum is a TDIC Cultural Department initiative aimed at creating a platform to exchange ideas on collecting art and support a greater appreciation of art and culture. This panel, inspired by Emirati Expressions, will discuss photography collections, the history of collecting photographs, and the current market for photography with an emphasis on photography in and of the Middle East.  The panel will include presentations by an esteemed list of guests:

Philippe Garner, Director of Christie’s and the firm’s International Head of Photographs and 20th Century Decorative Art & Design, has been professionally involved with photographs since co-ordinating the 1971 auction that marked the launch of this subject in the international art market. Philippe has published widely on various aspects of photography and has curated exhibitions in London, Paris and Tokyo.

Ramin Salsali, Founder of the Salsali Private Museum and the Patron for the Arts 2010 & 2011. Born in Tehran, Salsali developed his career in Germany by founding a specialised consulting company. His collection of contemporary Middle Eastern and European art has been developing for over 20 years. As a zealous supporter of the arts community in Dubai, he founded the first private art museum and collector centre in the region.

Jassim Al Awadhi, Professor of Photography at Fine Arts and Design University of Sharjah and Chair and Founder of Emirates Photography Club, Sharjah. He has been exhibiting his works both nationally and internationally since 1987 in solo and collaborative exhibitions. In 2010 Al Awadhi was awarded the UAE Appreciation Award in Photography by H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE.
