What the world said about Abu Dhabi Art 2010:
“There is a lot of enthusiasm, given the possibilities offered by the future institutions and private collections. I see great potential here and a genuine interest in art that goes beyond trend or simple curiosity," said Edward Tyler Nahem to the New York Times / International Herald Tribune.
“The collections being built here are serious, and we brought our best material out of respect for that” . “Last year there was a lot of surprises and curiosity. This time people seem to know more what they’re looking at. There’s more interest and appreciation. People are engaged and that makes anything possible.” said Peter Boris, the Vice President of New York’s Pace Gallery to The National.
"We want to develop interest in the market, while showing in depth what we can do. This country is becoming a cultural hub, and we want to be a part of that. I’ve talked to children and adults, Emiratis and expats, and there’s a real curiosity and engagement” said the While Cube’s Tim Marlow to The National.
“In terms of visitors, people are much more appreciative” said Rami Farook, the Emirati Art Collector and Owner of Dubai Traffic Gallery – The National
“This year’s Abu Dhabi Art has completely exceeded all of our expectations. It was very well organized and the program, talks and personalities are not usually found at an art fair, it has created a new standard and I’m sure in a few year everyone in the art world will want to be a part of it” Salwa Zeidan, an Abu Dhabi-based gallery, said to Gulf News.
“The fair has a grassroots, community feel to it. I love coming to Abu Dhabi Art. It is the third time I am here; I have always been well received by regional collectors and TDIC. I love forward to coming here; being a Middle Easterner myself, I feel at home in the UAE, which is my adopted country” said Leila Taghinia-Milani Heller of LTMH Gallery, New York.
“Abu Dhabi is fast emerging as an arts capital, but I do believe it will expand and design too. I think this is a great opportunity to introduce design and I am excited to see Abu Dhabi Art develop – perhaps into design one day – furniture can be art too.” Khalid Shafar , Emirati Furniture designer said to Abu Dhabi Week.
